Stockyard Sessions

Bonus Episode: Gabe Brown

Gabe reflects on more than 30 years of farming, failure, learning and ultimately regeneration. He shares how extreme drought, hail and financial pressure forced him to rethink everything he thought he knew about farming. With no access to synthetic inputs and little margin for error, he began to focus on natural systems and watched both his soils and his business reap the rewards.

Gabe describes himself simply:

“I’m a poor cattleman, an even worse farmer, but I can grow some soil.”

Tune in to hear some of the key principles Gabe discusses, including:

  • How diversity in plants, microbes and management drives resilience
  • Why carbon is a byproduct of better systems, not the sole objective
  • How profitability, not ideology, is what convinces producers to change
“You don’t remove all the inputs overnight. You transition biology while increasing profitability. That’s how you make this stick.” - Gabe Brown
